November, So what is it all about?
It is a between month, a wild card month; it can be angry, then calm. Wet and miserable. Through the calm parts, I look on and wonder, is it really nice out or just freezing, do I want to go out there or turn the heating on and sit and play a console game I have found a lawn-cutting simulator. Yes, I should get out more. A time to finish the hedge cuts, but I could not reach the bit overhanging the end of the garden as it was annoyingly out of reach. I am sure I will be distracted by the zip for the cover for the guinea pigs anyway apparently it is stuck again. There are a lot of jobs that need to be done. I am sure I will get to them eventually.
tasks to do in the garden in November here is a link to help:https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/in-month/november
My favourite plant though is Chrysanthemums
Chrysanthemums are beautiful that is what my wife tells me, they are also used at pet funerals dogs and cats. Indeed when we remember our past little dog ‘ Patch’ we like to buy some, as we feel it is right to honour his memory for being a good loyal devoted fellow.
They are also a resource for herbal tea and I read you could eat them although the taste was from sweet to bitter depending on the variety
Advisory: I suggest checking the information in regard to eating anything suggested here, as I did not go into much detail.
In Finland, they have their own word for November ‘Marraskuu’
The meaning of this word sheds light on our meaning of November. In Finnish Marras means dead or dying. To me, November is when nature dies. A Roman would tell you it was the 9th month, not the 11th. Latin Novem means 9th month due to the Roman calendar. Just some bits I picked up.
As November unfolds, I pass a glancing eye over my garden. Then I realised, I should made a better plan.
The garden that I observe, reveals a state of turmoil, the weather has played a large part in this tumultuous look leaving old debris blowing around. It is the start of the colder weather, like a fader on a stereo the volume of the temperature in this case slowly fades out along with the beloved daylight hours. I think what I am saying is it is getting cold and dark, too cold to sit outside that’s what Rosemary says. We have no choice it is completely out of our hands, a global decision nature makes telling us what we need but even nature is finding this month hard nowadays.
Prepping some bulbs for spring is always a good thing to do.
We bought some Daffodils from a local supermarket and promptly left them on the fridge. My thinking is that it will inspire me to plant them, next Saturday, I think. The next weekend arrived and I put the fork into the garden, it looked like a good day until the heavens opened. I had had a cup of tea before doing the work. The fork is now awaiting my return as a rapid exit from the garden was executed. You guessed it, I still intend to do it next Saturday.

In Finland, they have their own word for November ‘Marraskuu’
The meaning of this word sheds light on our meaning of November I feel. In Finnish Marras means dead or dying. To me, November is when nature dies or at least dies back. A Roman would tell you it was the 9th month, not the 11th. The Latin word Novem means 9th month due to the Roman calendar. Just some bits I picked up on my On Way in life. Well probably to much Rome total war another game I love.
I have got to conclude November, well, never thought I would say that!
My conclusion, my input is that this month is the month when plants die back to their roots to save energy. If Sherlock Holmes were to suddenly head the case of November he would come to the conclusion someone vandalised the trees, ( I always feel ripped off by nature. ) His investigation would probably point him to a corner in a garden where the pile of poor defenseless leaves was thrown by the wind. Such a crime, as they looked nice where they were. As for the sunshine I promised on TikTok, well I can guarantee it is here I am full of sunshine. But between the few us, we know it goes to the Maldives in November. My dear fellow readers if you have any theories, facts, requests, or funny stories send me a message, always happy to hear from you. I hope you keep warm and safe this Autumn please visit again soon and like and share if your heart is able.
Thank you, Tom
